Birthday Card.....

...for a grandson - actually its from my mother and father to my son.




My mum gives out to me because I won't take money for cards. . .. .. and yes this is the same woman who is paying for me to have laser eye surgery !

Any comments and opinions welcomed! Still on a learning curve with this card making lark!!

Birthday cake ....yum!

The best thing about making your own birthday cake is that you can choose exactly what you get to have!! So I went for pavlova..yum.




With that much fruit it counts as a healthy option!

Had a fun day for my birthday yesterday, got a nice lie in cause Des took L. to school, a walk down the canal then my Dad dropped over with flowers and a gift voucher for art&hobby shop.

I got totally spoilt with gifts from the guys here too - a MP3 player - Perfume - Books - Paint by numbers set(!) - and more flowers from DS.

There was a mild discussion on CS forum, and someone on it seems to think I was upset - but not a bit of it. It would take a hell of a lot more than that to upset me!!!

Valentines day gift ....

.... for the first time in - a long number of years ...we ended up giving each other valentines gifts. Not for any great reason, and certainly not with any great intention of celebrating a hallmark holiday.

I was up in borders bookstore yesterday and happened to pick up a copy of "uncut" - a music magazine - for Des. And remembered it this morning so gave it to him. Then I remembered it was valentines day today. So hence he got given a vd gift.

Anyway ... last night I showed my lovely cracked heals to Des ... strangely enough he was not overly impressed or even overly interested. Men - who can figure them out? But he did arrive in this afternoon with ...



So how romantic is that ? Scores out of ten please .......

The Strangest thing ....

Des is often on boards and this week while on the historic dublin photos thread someone said they had a photo of "Georges Pocket" which is where Des's father grew up, and in fact his parents lived there for the first few years of their marrage.

So the above photo was posted on the forum. And Des decided to show it to his Uncle Ben - who is his fathers identical twin brother - Des's dad is dead this 12year now.

Anyhoo - low and behold - in the front of the photo there are two little guys to each side of the lad with the rope ..and ...the young lad facing front is Des's father. Ben is the wee guy with his back to the camera beside him.

Now the great question is - How did Ben know which was which twin?!? While they were both alive I was often stuck to tell them apart - and they would often play tricks on people.

The woman just about seen in the second floor window - with the window boxes - is Des's granny Julia.

Another interesting fact about this photo is that Ben says Dessie is wearing the overcoat they got for their first communion. Not a coat each - a shared one! And we think times are hard now.....

Another cake....

Personally I loved the way this turned out....which is not something that happens all that often with me and cakes. There are many that I am just not happy with, this I loved.



And I can honestly say that the cake itself was delish, as we all ate the off cuts here!! This is yet another cake that started life as a basic rectange....all you do then is add a bit of sugarpaste icing...and bobs your auntie ... a novelty cake.
